Coastal Insider June Edition

Stay connected with our top stories delivered every month!

A MESSAGE FROM OUR TEAM

This month we enter the seventh year that the Coastal Insider has been in print— bringing local stories about businesses and people that inform and entertain, stories that touch hearts and minds, to our readers along the Grand Strand and beyond. Over the years, we’ve changed names, locations, and our layout, but we’ve never wavered from our mission— that of supporting local businesses and of connecting our unique coastal communities. We’ve had as much fun and laughable adventures compiling content each month as we hope you’ve had reading it; while with each passing year, the relationships and ties to our community become richer and deeper. We’d like to offer a heartfelt thanks to our advertisers, for the trust and faith you put in us to represent you, and our readers, for the joy and support you bring us.

Another constant here at the Insider is our tireless pursuit to make what we have to offer, ever better. We recently began a new initiative with area realty companies to showcase a hand-selected number of their listings in our publication, to reveal the best of what the Grand Strand has to offer. Additionally, our magazine will no longer focus geographically on one rotating area of the Grand Strand, rather it will include all area real estate every month.

We envision this collaboration and change will better serve the needs of both customers and communities, and are excited to see how it unfolds. Whether you’ve lived here for years, or are visiting for the first time, welcome to summer in Myrtle Beach. Have a blessed season.

4 Reasons You Shouldn’t Visit Myrtle Beach (Unless You’re Into That Kind of Thing)

Unless You’re Into Epic Food, Unbeatable Views, and Beach Vibes That Stick We tried to warn you. Myrtle Beach is the kind of place that sneaks up on you—starts off as a casual weekend getaway and ends with you checking Zillow listings from your beach towel. From the food (don’t even get us started) to the 60 miles of coastline that seem to never end, this beach town will charm your socks—and probably your flip-flops—off. But hey, if you’re into unforgettable sunrises, hidden culinary gems, and the kind of beach life that makes you forget what day it is… then go ahead. Keep reading. Just don’t say we didn’t warn you. 1. Your Taste Buds Are About to Be Real Spoiled You’d think with over 2,000 restaurants, you’d hit a few duds. But nope. Myrtle Beach somehow manages to serve everything from upscale seafood towers to down-home BBQ that tastes like your grandma went to culinary school in the Lowcountry. Start with local shrimp and grits so creamy you’ll want to write home about it. But don’t stop there. We’re talking family-run Italian joints in Conway, rooftop brunches with ocean views, Asian fusion that goes toe-to-toe with major metro cities, and bakeries that’ll ruin you for chain coffee shops forever. Myrtle Beach even does food trucks and speakeasies. Yes, this beach town has a speakeasy. What kind of place is this? 2. You’ll Never Run Out of Things to Do Oh, you thought this was just a beach town? That’s cute. Myrtle Beach has amusement rides, escape rooms, country music festivals, pirate-themed mini golf, jet skis, banana boats, paddleboarding, zip lining, helicopter rides, and enough beachfront bars to lose track of your tan lines. Want to relax instead? Fine. Find a beach chair, sip a cold drink, and listen to live music while the ocean air does its thing. Whether you’re eight or eighty, there’s always something going on—and it’s probably weirder and more wonderful than you expect. 3. The Sunrises and Beaches Will Wreck Your Standards Let’s talk about your new morning ritual. Around 5:30 a.m., the sky starts glowing like someone dimmed the lights in heaven. Grab your coffee, head to Myrtle Beach State Park or the Cherry Grove Pier, and just… exist. It’s quiet, it’s salty, it’s the kind of peace that feels like therapy. You might even catch dolphins playing in the waves if you’re lucky. And once that sunrise has set your vibe for the day, the Grand Strand’s 60-mile coastline keeps the magic going. Pick your stretch: people-watching by the SkyWheel, family fun at Surfside Beach, wild dunes at Huntington Beach State Park, or barefoot luxury in Pawleys Island. Whether you’re there to sunbathe or shell hunt, party or disappear, the beach always has your back—and yes, the sand really does sparkle. 4. You Won’t Want to Leave This isn’t just a vacation spot. It’s a lifestyle—and a dangerously convincing one at that. There’s a certain energy here. The kind that makes strangers feel like friends and everyday moments feel like memories. Maybe it’s the way the sun hits the waves at 7 p.m. Maybe it’s the barista who remembers your order on day two. Maybe it’s the fact that even in the off-season, the charm doesn’t quit. People don’t just visit Myrtle Beach. They join it. And if you’re not careful, you will too. So Go Ahead, Visit. If You Dare. We’ve done our due diligence. We warned you. Myrtle Beach has a way of turning skeptics into superfans and weekenders into locals. You’ll eat too well, sleep too soundly, tan too perfectly, and feel too at home. And the worst part? You’ll want to come back. Again. And again. And again.

Which Beach Is Your Beach? 7 Vibes Along the Grand Strand You Need to Know

Where to dip your toes in the sand, dodge the crowds, and find your perfect stretch of shoreline Summer’s knocking, and Myrtle Beach is wide open for business. Whether you’re chasing boardwalk thrills, scouting out a quiet corner to catch some rays, or hunting for that perfect sunset view, the Grand Strand delivers. This isn’t just one beach—it’s a 60-mile stretch packed with iconic landmarks, secret hideaways, and plenty of sand for every type of beachgoer. From family-friendly fun to low-key, locals-only spots, here are 7 Myrtle Beach-area beaches to check off your summer bucket list. Myrtle Beach The one that needs no introduction. Myrtle Beach is your go-to for a sun-drenched, action-packed day where the Atlantic collides with carnival vibes. Think buzzing beach bars, sand-strewn volleyball courts, and enough watersports to make your FitBit sweat. And don’t forget the SkyWheel—the ultimate selfie backdrop. Parking: Metered spots, garages, and lots galore. Download ParkMobile or bring some quarters, just in case. North Myrtle Beach Nine miles of wide-open beaches and just enough elbow room to keep your zen intact. North Myrtle is your mellow cousin to the north, perfect for catching waves with the kids or wandering into quirky shops along Main Street for that kitschy souvenir you didn’t know you needed. Parking: Over 50 public lots, with free hours before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m.—all day freebie in winter. Surfside Beach “The Family Beach” lives up to the hype with playgrounds, picnic areas, and soft waves that scream, “Let’s build sandcastles!” Surfside’s low-key charm makes it a hit for families and beachgoers who don’t want to dodge frisbees every five minutes. Parking: Metered parking and lots close to the sand. Easy in, easy out for stroller-pushers and cooler-haulers. Garden City Beach Old-school beach lovers, this one’s for you. Garden City Beach brings chill vibes with a nostalgic pier, fishing spots, and tidal pools perfect for mini explorers. It’s slower-paced than Myrtle, but still delivers on sunset magic and pier-side bites. Parking: A mix of public lots and street parking. Pro tip: get here early or pack some patience. Murrells Inlet Part marsh, part legend, all character. Murrells Inlet is your launchpad for kayaking through winding creeks or grabbing a dockside cocktail along the famous MarshWalk. Bonus: It’s a seafood lover’s paradise, with fresh-off-the-boat options everywhere you turn. Parking: Huntington Beach State Park is your gateway with ample parking (small fee), or snag a spot closer to the MarshWalk. Huntington Beach State Park Want nature with your beach day? Huntington Beach State Park delivers. Miles of pristine sand, wild dunes, and trails where you might spot a gator or two. It’s part coastal wonderland, part wildlife sanctuary—and all peace and quiet. Parking: On-site parking included with park admission. Access to beaches, trails, and bird-watching bonanzas. Litchfield Beach Luxury meets serenity here. Litchfield Beach is the low-key luxe getaway with soft sand and fewer crowds. Morning walks practically beg to be taken, and it’s a hotspot for vacationers who prefer the finer (and quieter) side of the shore. Parking: Limited parking at public access points, so set your alarm and beat the brunch crowd. Cherry Grove Beach Your ultimate “laid-back but fun” destination. Cherry Grove is all about long pier strolls, calm surf, and inlet paddling. Whether you’re angling for fish or just the perfect people-watching spot, this beach hits all the right notes. Parking: A combo of public lots and free street parking—but it’s a hot ticket on weekends. Ocean Drive Beach Time travel, anyone? Ocean Drive brings the beach nostalgia with wide sands by day and shag dancing by night. Yes, the Carolina Shag is alive and well here. Expect a mix of family-friendly sun-soaking and old-school beach music. Parking: Metered spots and paid lots right near the action on Main Street. Windy Hill Beach Locals try to keep Windy Hill hush-hush—and we get why. This slice of North Myrtle’s southern end offers tall dunes, a peaceful vibe, and a backdrop of luxury resorts. Low-key and lovely, it’s the beach equivalent of an insider tip. Parking: Public lots and scattered street spots, often less chaotic than the neighbors.

Myrtle Beach Just Became Every Teen’s Dream—Here’s Why

From fire shows to jet skis, these are the 11 best spots that’ll have your teens raving all summer Think Myrtle Beach is all mini golf and seafood buffets? Not even close. If you’ve got teens in tow, this coastal playground has more than enough action, independence, and let’s-face-it, TikTok content to keep them off their phones (at least for a few minutes). From jet skis and fire dancers to retro arcades and brain-twisting mazes, here are seven places that absolutely deliver for the teen crowd. Action Water Sportz Jet skis are always a win, especially when teens 16+ can ride solo with a valid driver’s license. Action Water Sportz combines high-speed fun with dolphin sightings and guided tours that feel more like an outdoor video game. The ride through the marshes? Peak freedom. For those who’d rather float than fly, pontoon boats and banana boat rides are also on deck. Location: 1525 13th Avenue North, North Myrtle Beach, SC Backstage Mirror Maze This is not your average funhouse. The Backstage Mirror Maze is a kaleidoscope playground with mind-bending reflections, colorful lights, and plenty of ways to lose your way (on purpose). Teens love racing each other through it or grabbing content for the camera roll. Add the laser maze or escape room for extra group chaos. Location: 1314 Celebrity Circle #165, Myrtle Beach, SC Crazy Sister Marina More chill, less chaos. Crazy Sister Marina offers dolphin cruises, eco tours, pirate ships, and even parasailing. The draw here? Real wildlife, scenic salt marshes, and that just-off-the-beaten-path feel. It’s perfect for teens who want something quieter but still full of “did you see that?!” moments. Bonus: great food options nearby. Location: 4123 US-17 BUSINESS, Murrells Inlet, SC  Family Kingdom Amusement Park Family Kingdom is Myrtle Beach nostalgia at its best—complete with 35+ rides, bumper cars, and a beachside wooden roller coaster that’s older than most of its riders. Teens love rolling in at night when the lights are glowing and the air smells like funnel cake. No entry fee means they can just hang, snack, and hop on a few rides. Location: 300 4th Avenue South, Myrtle Beach, SC Broadway Grand Prix This is where teens go to win. Broadway Grand Prix has seven different go-kart tracks, plus an arcade, mini golf, and a bungee ride for thrill-chasers. It’s a full-on competition zone where bragging rights are earned the old-school way—by beating your siblings on the slick track. Location: 1820 21st Avenue North, Myrtle Beach, SC Broadway at the Beach If Myrtle Beach had a teen headquarters, this would be it. Broadway at the Beach is a massive outdoor complex packed with shops, restaurants, arcades, and attractions. Think koi ponds, selfie spots, live DJs, candy stores, and an upside-down building called WonderWorks. Teens can roam with friends, grab a slice, or hop on the Jet Boat. Location: 1325 Celebrity Circle, Myrtle Beach, SC Topgolf Myrtle Beach You don’t have to know a thing about golf to be obsessed with Topgolf. Located on Grissom Parkway, this mega-complex is basically a high-tech sports party disguised as a driving range. Teens can blast microchipped balls at glowing targets (even if their form is questionable) and instantly get feedback on how far they went. It’s like a video game, but with burgers, fire pits, and real bragging rights. Bonus: bays are climate-controlled, so no one’s melting. Pro tip: Show up on Tuesday for half-price play. Location: 2850 Robert M Grissom Parkway, Myrtle Beach, SC Shark Wake Park A waterpark without the wait lines. Shark Wake Park in North Myrtle Beach is what happens when someone crosses American Ninja Warrior with a splash zone. There’s a full-size cable system for wakeboarding and kneeboarding, plus a floating obstacle island that’s basically a giant bounce house on the water. Teens aged 6+ who meet the height requirement (45″) can race, slide, jump, and crash in the most Instagrammable way possible. Summer camps and group deals are perfect for parties or repeat visits. Location: 150 Citizens Circle, Little River, SC Coming Soon: SurfWorks Indoor Surf Park This isn’t just a surf simulator—it’s an indoor wave paradise. Opening in 2027, SurfWorks is a 5-acre complex at Broadway at the Beach that’ll deliver over 1,000 waves per hour via next-gen Wavegarden Cove tech. Whether your teen’s a seasoned shredder or can barely swim, this park will offer safe, consistent waves for all levels. Expect pro lessons, hangout spots, food, an amphitheater for live shows, and serious summer camp energy. It’s the future of Myrtle Beach thrill-seeking. Coming Soon: The PicklePort If your teens are even remotely competitive, just wait until they hit the pickleball courts. Set to open summer 2026 near the airport on Harrelson Blvd, The PicklePort will feature 12 indoor courts and six covered outdoor ones—plus shaded spectator zones, a pro shop, and snack bar. Think Topgolf, but for paddle sports. With climate control, leagues, and booking via app, it’s poised to be the next big social scene for Myrtle’s sporty teens.

What Went Down at the 2025 Carolina Country Music Fest—Rain, Riffs, and a 10-Year Throwdown

CCMF’s milestone year brought big acts, bigger storms, and a weekend Myrtle Beach won’t soon forget https://youtube.com/watch?v=YWCpLn6rOb4%2520title%3D Ten years strong, and the Carolina Country Music Fest in Myrtle Beach still knows how to throw a party—even when Mother Nature doesn’t exactly RSVP with sunshine. From June 5–8, 2025, over 30,000 fans a day packed the oceanfront Burroughs & Chapin Pavilion site, boots deep in mud but spirits high. The milestone anniversary brought four days of headliners, homegrown talent, flash floods, and a drone show that TikTok is still raving about. Here’s how it all went down. Thursday: Kicking Off With Thunder (Literally) Day one’s energy was palpable—even if the sky had other plans. Just as Rascal Flatts and Tyler Hubbard were warming up, lightning lit up the Grand Strand. Evacuations followed, with fans rerouted to garages and local restaurants until the all-clear was given. Still, the show must go on, and it did—with Rascal Flatts delivering a nostalgia-packed set once the rain let up. The McDonald’s Kick-Off Night also featured Colt Ford, Warrick McZeke, and more, setting the tone for a weekend that would be as unpredictable as it was unforgettable. Friday: Coastal Cowgirl Day + Lainey Wilson Heats Things Up By Friday, the weather had cleared and the boots were back on the ground—mud be damned. Fans came dressed to impress for Coastal Cowgirl Day, and Lainey Wilson took the stage like she owned the sand. Chris Young and Dylan Gossett followed, while acts like Kaitlin Butts and Jackson Dean kept the afternoon humming along. Crowds stretched stage-to-stage, sunscreen replaced ponchos, and the only thing stormy was the drink line. The day ended with a clear sky and a warm breeze off the Atlantic—maybe the most traditional festival-feeling moment of the entire weekend. Saturday: Camo Night, Chase Rice, and Jelly Roll Ignites It All This was peak CCMF energy. Themed Camo Night turned into a sea of camouflage, cowboy hats, and flag bandanas. Jelly Roll closed the night with a massive, high-energy set (after a surprise escort from Horry County deputies) and a heartfelt salute to first responders. Earlier that afternoon, Chase Rice showed up for a surprise pop-up set on the Coors Banquet Stage. Fans had barely recovered from dancing in the mud when this one hit—a total crowd-pleaser and a social media moment in the making. Local stars like Mariah Faith and King Tide gave Myrtle Beach something to cheer extra hard for. Their sets lit up smaller stages and proved the fest isn’t just about the big names—it’s about spotlighting the scene too. Sunday: USA Day Delays, John Stamos, and the Kid Rock Finale USA Day started with another weather delay, forcing gates to stay closed until after 3 p.m. Fans hunkered down in parking decks and, in true Myrtle fashion, turned the downtime into impromptu pre-parties. The Bowery was buzzing. Energy stayed high. Once inside, attendees caught Brantley Gilbert, Priscilla Block, and a surprise appearance by none other than John Stamos with The Beach Boys. That patriotic vibe carried all the way to Kid Rock’s thunderous finale, which packed every inch of sand with flag-waving fans. Safety, Spirit, and Southern Hospitality Local first responders were everywhere—and not just behind the scenes. On Saturday, Myrtle Beach firefighters were invited on stage in a tribute moment that had fans cheering between songs. Coordinated evacuation procedures and storm alerts (down to an 8-mile lightning tracker) proved this wasn’t their first rodeo. And despite the chaos, it was a violence-free weekend—one of the first for Myrtle Beach since early spring. That’s not just a stat. That’s a testament to the people who came ready to celebrate safely. Final Take Was it muddy? Yes. Delayed? Repeatedly. But ask anyone who stood singing under storm clouds or caught a drone show from the sand: CCMF 2025 was worth it. This wasn’t just another festival. It was Myrtle Beach showing its heart—ten years in, still growing, still glowing, still country to the core.

Beyond the Boardwalk: Real Talk From Someone Who Left, Came Back, and Never Looked Back

What You Really Need to Know About Living in Myrtle Beach

Local Insight From Someone Who Left, Came Back, and Can’t Imagine Being Anywhere Else https://www.youtube.com/embed/RTTz1zb1C1Q%20title= Here’s the thing, Myrtle Beach isn’t just a place you visit—it’s a place that gets under your skin in the best possible way. No one knows that better than Megan Parker, aka @myrtlebeachmegan. Born and raised here, she moved to bigger cities thinking she’d never look back. But after searching for the perfect spot to raise a family, life led her right back to the South Carolina coast—and this time, with fresh eyes and a deeper appreciation. We asked Megan what she wishes more people knew about living in Myrtle Beach. Here’s her list, five truths that don’t show up on the relocation brochures, but probably should. The Beach Isn’t Just for Tourists The beach stops being a destination and starts becoming your rhythm. Morning walks at sunrise, quiet stretches where it’s just you and the waves, secret sunset spots you’ll never drop a pin for, this isn’t a vacation anymore. It’s your daily dose of peace. As Megan puts it, “The beach isn’t just a backdrop. It becomes the best kind of therapy.” Locals Go to MarshWalk and Barefoot—Not Broadway Sure, Broadway has its place, but if you’re a local? You’re down at the MarshWalk in Murrells Inlet or strolling Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle. That’s where you grab dinner, listen to live music, and run into three people you know before you even order a drink. It’s casual, it’s salty, and it’s ours. These are the places where you feel the local vibe, not the crowds. You Find Your Go-To Spots by Exploring Forget Google. Your favorite places, the ones you come back to again and again, won’t be listed on the top ten travel blogs. They’re the tucked-away coffee shops with just the right playlist, hole-in-the-wall seafood joints that locals have sworn by for decades, and those low-traffic beach accesses you only find by accident. Megan says, “Your go-to spots? You discover them. They’re not on the brochure.” Life Moves Slower—And That’s the Point One of the first things people notice? The pace. You’ll chat with someone in the grocery store line for 15 minutes and no one behind you will care. People wave at each other on the road. They sit on porches. They stay for “just one drink” that turns into two hours of catching up. Life moves slower here, and that’s not a flaw, it’s the feature. It’s More Than Just a Beach Town Yes, we’ve got 60 miles of coastline. But Myrtle Beach is layered. The Intracoastal Waterway, historic districts, neighborhoods you’ve never heard of until you’re driving through and suddenly want to live there. There’s art, culture, festivals, hidden trails, and real people building real lives. As Megan says, “You don’t just live at the beach… the beach starts to live in you.” Thinking About a Move? If Megan’s words resonate with you, maybe it’s time to see Myrtle Beach for yourself. Whether you’re relocating for family, a job, or a lifestyle shift, you don’t need to figure it all out at once. “Your first home doesn’t have to be forever,” she reminds us. “Use it as a stepping stone while you find what fits.” Let BHHS Coastal Real Estate help you take that first step. We live here. We know every neighborhood, every tucked-away gem, and every good reason to stay. Whether you’re dreaming of ocean views or a quiet inland retreat, our team is ready to help you find your fit. Let’s turn curiosity into keys. Reach out to BHHS Coastal Real Estate and let’s find the version of Myrtle Beach that feels like home to you.

Treasure Island  If you’re craving that classic piratey chaos, Treasure Island Mini Golf delivers in full force. Expect waterfalls, bridges, caves, and yes—life-sized pirates standing guard. Atlanticus towers over downtown, offering two 18-hole courses that twist and climb through ocean-view platforms, ancient ruins, and the occasional surprise sea creature. The cherry on top? It’s less about the score, more about the vibe—and that’s what Myrtle Beach golf is all about. Location: 2850 Robert M Grissom Parkway, Myrtle Beach, SC
