From ghost walks and coffin races to haunted attractions, river cruises and family-friendly fun, October transforms Conway into one of the Grand Strand’s biggest Halloween destinations.
Downtown Conway takes on a completely different personality every October.
From October 1 through 31, the historic district transforms into the City of Halloween, with pumpkins, skeletons, witches, lights and themed displays throughout downtown and along the Riverwalk.You don’t need a ticket to enjoy the atmosphere, but the month is also packed with special events. Here are some of the biggest Halloween happenings to put on your calendar.
The Big BOO-ginning
October 1 | 6–8 p.m. | Downtown Conway
Conway kicks off Halloween month with The Big BOO-ginning, a community costume march through downtown.
Registration begins at 6 p.m. at the Fourth Avenue Riverwalk entrance on Kingston Street, followed by the march at 7 p.m. toward Town Green. The evening continues with live music and costume contest winners. Come dressed up and consider it the official start of spooky season in Conway.
Halloween Hustle
October 3 | Downtown Conway
Start Halloween month with a run through the decorated streets of downtown during the annual Halloween Hustle.
The event includes a 10K, 5K and Monster Mile, followed by post-race festivities. Costumes are encouraged, making this anything but your average Saturday morning road race.
Witches, Wizards & Wine
October 8 & 22 | 5–7:30 p.m. | Downtown Conway
This adults-focused Halloween tradition turns downtown into a costumed wine walk.
Participants visit participating businesses while sampling wines and exploring the historic district. Both 2026 dates are currently listed as sold out, but you can still expect plenty of witches, wizards and Halloween energy downtown on those evenings.
Conway Ghost Walk
October 14–16 | 6–8 p.m. | Historic Downtown Conway
Conway’s historic homes and moss-draped streets provide the perfect setting for the annual Conway Ghost Walk.
Professional storytellers guide guests through the Historic Conwayborough Residential District while sharing local ghost stories, legends and tales of the supernatural.
The approximately one-mile walking tour takes place after dark, and advance reservations are required.
Graveyard Grand Prix Coffin Races
October 17 | Downtown Conway
One of Conway’s most unusual Halloween traditions returns when homemade coffins take to the streets.
During the Graveyard Grand Prix Coffin Races, teams race human-powered coffin creations through downtown while competing for speed, creativity and team spirit. Live music, food trucks and Halloween activities add to the festivities.
It’s quirky, competitive and exactly what you would expect from the City of Halloween.
Fear Factory Haunted Attraction
October 1–November 1 | 7 Elm Street
Visitors looking for something a little scarier can head to Fear Factory Haunted Attraction.
The 2026 experience includes Elm Street Asylum, a darker immersive haunt with live actors; Kingston Hallow Spooky Maze, featuring lighter scares; and Conway Haunted Manor, a more family-friendly, story-driven experience.
Different ticket options allow visitors to choose just how spooky they want the night to be.
Halloween on the Waccamaw River

You can even experience Halloween from the water.
The City of Conway Halloween “Shiver” Cruise takes passengers along the Waccamaw River for a short trip filled with Halloween scenery, ghost stories, spooky sounds and lantern light.
Families with younger children can also check out the Children’s Halloween Pirate Adventure, an interactive cruise featuring pirates, a skeleton crew and Halloween treasure.
The Witching Hour at the Horry County Museum
October 21 | 1 p.m. & 6 p.m.
For something festive without the jump scares, The Witching Hour brings the Long Bay Symphony woodwind quintet to the Horry County Museum.
The candlelight concert features seasonal music and Halloween charm, with performances scheduled for 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. The program is family-friendly, free and open to the public.
Halloween Day at Thompson Farm
October 31 | 10 a.m.–5 p.m. | Conway
Families can finish the month at Thompson Farm and Nursery, where Halloween Day brings a full lineup of fall activities.
The farm’s celebration includes a helicopter candy drop with thousands of treats, along with its corn maze, petting zoo, hay wagon rides, pumpkin patch, play areas, food trucks and seasonal photo opportunities.
Visitors should confirm the exact helicopter drop time with Thompson Farm before attending.
Make a Night of It
Part of the fun of Halloween in Conway is that you don’t need a packed schedule.
Come downtown before sunset to explore the decorations, grab dinner or visit the local shops, then take another walk after dark when the pumpkins, skeletons and displays light up.
With events happening throughout October and decorations filling the historic district all month long, there are plenty of reasons to make at least one trip to the City of Halloween this fall.
