Introduce me to your family.
I come from a large family; I have four brothers and four sisters. I’m the only one who lives here in Myrtle Beach.
Where are all the places you came from? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Kingstree, SC, in Williamsburg County, about 45 minutes south of Georgetown. I went to Claflin University, in Orangeburg, SC, then I moved to Florence, and then Myrtle Beach. I live on the south end of Myrtle Beach.
Why did you move to Myrtle Beach?
I used to be a journalist. I worked for News 13 in Florence, and when they relocated their main facility to Myrtle Beach, I moved with them. That was in 2007. Now I work for the City of Myrtle Beach as a public information specialist.
What is your favorite place in Myrtle Beach?
The ocean. I normally go to Second Avenue pier.
What do you like the most about living here?
It’s close enough to home, but far enough from home that all the neighbors can’t pop over all the time to visit. I like being close to home because my mom is 82 years old. I didn’t want to move far away.
How has your lifestyle changed since moving here?
I’ve become more social since I moved here.
What new activities have you taken up since moving here?
I went to graduate school online and received my MBA with a concentration in human resources in 2012. I graduated from esthetics school this past January and am excited to begin my own business.
What is one thing that your neighbors don’t know about you?
Two things probably. First, that I went to cosmetology school when I was in high school. Two, that I come from such a big family.
What are your favorite things to do here?
Go to the beach, and work on starting my skin care business, Charismatic Beauty. I’m a mobile skincare specialist, and visit people in their homes or workplace to take care of their skin for them. That’s what I’m really passionate about.
Is there anything that you miss or would like to see in Myrtle Beach?
More cultural experiences for the younger crowd, like theatre and art, and more diverse jobs and careers for younger people too. It’s improving, but I think we could do better. Progress has already started.
