The most wonderful time of the year has been a long time coming but it’s finally here. The Town of Surfside Beach has been known throughout the years as being an especially festive part of the Grand Strand during the holiday season, and this year is no exception.
To respect social distancing measures implemented to keep our community safe during Covid-19, many of the events have had to adapt and modify their offerings. Read on to learn more about what Surfside is bringing to our shores this winter.
The Holiday Market, located in the farmers market area next to the Surfside Beach Library, on 410 Surfside Drive, has been in full swing since the beginning of November. It will continue to run every Tuesday from noon-4pm, until December 21. The market is sponsored by Waccamaw Market Cooperative, and carries an eclectic array of beautifully crafted goods by local vendors. Here you’ll find holiday gifts, crafts, and décor.
The annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony will be held on December 3, 2020. The event will be run less like a community-packed festival this year, and more as a viewing ceremony. The choir from the Lowcountry Community Church will bring their magic of the season, and regale spectators with their selection of seasonal hymns. The ceremony will take place at 6pm in front of the Town Hall at 117 U.S. 17 Business.
December 12 sees the return of the Surfside Beach Christmas Parade. The parade begins at 2pm, and will commence at Melody Lane and follow its usual path progressing down Ocean Boulevard. It will also traverse Surfside Drive and disband at Poplar Drive.
Numerous festive floats will be on display. Riders on the floats, a certain jolly elf included, will be gloved and throwing candy to the audience lining the streets, who are also encouraged to bring their own seating arrangements. As it will be difficult to keep a safe distance between one another, remember to respect your neighbor and bring your mask.
